KEEPING GIRLS S.A.F.E.
We are proud to announce that, on Saturday, February 18, 2017, the first-ever Stay Safe Workshop for high school senior girls and their mothers will be held at Craig High School.
The purpose of the event is to provide young women with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves from crime as they prepare to leave high school for more education or to join the workforce.
The three-hour workshop will include three sessions - self-defense, safety awareness, and identity and financial safety. The self-defense portion is based upon the S.A.F.E. Program from the National Self-Defense Institute. S.A.F.E. stands for Self-defense, Awareness, Familiarization, and Exchange. The program is taught by police officers and is designed to educate women on how to protect themselves from crime by introducing them to physical training methods. Additionally, participants will learn about how to protect themselves online and in financial interactions through a curriculum developed by the Hedberg Public Library and Craig educators and students.
There is no cost for this workshop. The project is a collaboration of AAUW, the Janesville Police Department, Janesville Public Schools, Craig High School, Craig PTO, and Hedberg Public Library.
Craig senior girls and their mothers (or another important woman in the student's life) can register by contacting Dr. Alison Bjoin
, Craig Principal; or by phone at 608-743-5155.
This class will be filled on a first come, first served basis; unfortunately, there is a limit on the number of participants that can be accommodated. So, sign up early!
Craig High School will make the fieldhouse and weight room open to the public beginning on Monday, November 28 from 6:00 - 7:00AM each day school is in session throughout the remainder of the school year. It will be supervised by Craig staff. We would ask people to bring a dry pair of shoes to avoid tracking in the elements from outside.
