Students will publish a yearbook for their peers. They will learn the basics of yearbook journalism – book functions, financial responsibility, page layout and design, copy writing and editing, graphics and special effects, indexing, and student press law. Students interested in photography will study picture composition, film developing, and picture printing. They will be trained in the use of a 35mm camera and learn to use equipment in the darkroom. This course will NOT count as one of the four required English credits. Students are expected to design and lay out yearbook spreads. Write body copy, headlines and captions. Formulate a budget and determine fundraisers and manage expenditures. Study functions of the yearbook. Study yearbook terminology. Study press law.
