In the 2018-19 school year, the School District of Janesville will begin using a citizenship and employability grading and assessment rubric in grades 6-12. The rubric will provide feedback and information to students and families regarding respect, responsibility and engagement in the classroom. In our current report card grading system, students receive grades based on the mastery and understanding of learning targets, skills and standards. The citizenship and employability reporting system will provide feedback and accountability for future employability, career, life and college readiness skills. Learning skills and work habits help students to learn more effectively, develop their potential as independent learners and take ownership of their own learning. The skills and habits included in employability and citizenship skills will be relevant to students long after graduation in helping them to transform into critical thinkers, and responsible productive global citizens.
A copy of the citizenship and employability rubric is attached for your reference. During the 2018-19 school year, each student will receive a rubric score in three different areas including: Respect, Responsibility and Engagement. You will see this information on quarterly report cards. The rubric includes a description for each category to identify the expectations for students to demonstrate consistently meeting expectations. The student will be assessed using the rubric in each course. The new citizenship and employability grading and assessment rubric aligns with our district goals to continue to develop the academic and social emotional needs of all students to prepare them for future foundational employability, career and college readiness skills.
