Rock University High School Earns Top Recognition in U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools Ranking
 

JANESVILLE, WI — Rock University High School (RUHS), a public charter high school within the School District of Janesville, has been named among the top 35 public high schools in Wisconsin by U.S. News & World Report.

The annual rankings evaluate thousands of public high schools nationwide using data from the 2023–2024 school year, developed in collaboration with global research firm RTI International.

To determine the rankings, U.S. News & World Report measures performance across six key areas:

• College Readiness: Proportions of 12th graders who took and passed college-level courses, such as Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment classes.

• State Assessment Proficiency: Overall scores on state-required standardized tests.

• State Assessment Performance: Performance on state tests compared to expectations based on student demographics.

• Underserved Student Performance: Achievement levels among Black, Hispanic, and low-income students.

• College Curriculum Breadth: Participation and success in multiple college-level exams and courses.

• Graduation Rate: The percentage of entering ninth graders who graduate on time.

Situated on the Beloit-Janesville campus of Blackhawk Technical College, RUHS offers students a unique dual-enrollment model that provides early access to postsecondary coursework while they complete their high school diplomas.

"This recognition reflects the incredible work of our students, educators, and staff, as well as the strong partnership between the School District of Janesville and Blackhawk Technical College," said Dr. Patty Hernandez, RUHS Principal. "We remain committed to providing students the opportunity to earn a college credential while attending high school. In fact, about 80% of this year’s graduating class is expected to earn an associate’s degree from Blackhawk Technical College. By giving our students the opportunity to earn college credits, industry certifications, and college degrees while still in high school, we are breaking barriers, especially for underserved students and communities. This is about opportunity and building brighter pathways for our young people.”
